In this 20 credit Cardiac Care module, available at level 6 (UZWRWY-20-3) or level 7 (UZWR18-20-M), you will examine the care of an adult with a cardiac condition from assessment to management. You will consider the pathophysiology related to the cardiac condition, review policy and the implications for practice will be explored.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

• demonstrate an in depth knowledge and systematic understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacological and therapeutic principles as applied to cardiac care practice

• critically analyse the evidence underpinning the delivery of care for patients with cardiovascular disorders

• critically appraise and synthesise the holistic care needs and ethical issues associated in caring for those with cardiovascular dysfunction and their carers

• critically evaluate the role of the healthcare professional in the provision of health promotion/education for patients and their carers/family living with cardiovascular disorders

• critically evaluate the healthcare professionals role within the multi-disciplinary team in developing the quality of care provision for people with cardiac problems, their carers/family

• demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge and critically evaluate current developments and policy implications in own practice area in relation to cardiovascular disorders and current research

Topics covered in this module typically include:

• care and management of the individual with arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death
• holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment and care for the cardiac patient and their carers/ family
• care and management of Pacemakers/Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
• primary prevention and risk stratification in relation to cardiovascular disease

Learning and Teaching

Teaching will be a mix of virtual seminars and tutorial supported e-learning.

Study time

A total of 48 hours in the form of seminars, lectures and online activities.

Assessment

Written assignment of 3,000 words.

You will be given opportunities through reflection on practice, group discussion forum and with feedback throughout the module, to discuss ideas related to their specific area of cardiac care
