You may be able to study these modules at Level 6 (BSc level) or Level 7 (Masters level) depending on your academic circumstances. Please contact the CPD Team or the Module Leader for advice if you are unsure which level would be best for you.

This 15 credit Practice Assessor module aims to provide you with theory and practical skills in order to facilitate learning and assess students in specialist and advanced healthcare practice. It replaces the Practice Teacher module and has been mapped to the NMC Standards for student supervision and assessment (2018) to fulfil the requirements for practice assessors.

The level 6 (UZVSKN-15-3) or level 7 (UZVSKP-15-M) module recognises the unique set of skills required to assess learners in specialist and advanced healthcare practice including Specialist Community Public Health Nursing, District Nursing, Sexual Health, or Prescribing programmes. You need to be working with postgraduate students in a community setting.

Using a spiral curriculum, this module builds on current knowledge by asking you to consider in more depth your knowledge and application of evidence based teaching and learning strategies, your accountability and leadership as an educator in your area of practice.

Content

The content of the module typically includes:

• learning theory

• action and lesson planning

• assessment tools and theory

• models for delivering constructive feedback in advanced practice

• communication and coaching models

• accountability and understanding processes for supporting students who are not meeting expected standards.

You will be supported to critically reflect on and proactively develop your professional practice and knowledge in order to fulfil your role.

A variety of approaches will be used which will include workshops, blended learning, case studies, formative peer and self-assessment, discussion, sharing good ideas and practice and reflection with the aim of continuously improving practice.
