Modules can be offered either individually or collectively if you have had your first degree evaluated by the IBMS and require further Top-up studies in order to complete the educational requirement for IBMS accreditation.

This 30 credit Infection and Disease module aims to introduce the main disciplines in biomedical science: cellular pathology, clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, haematology, transfusion science, clinical genetics and medical microbiology.

As well as developing an understanding of specific diseases and their laboratory investigation, you will be encouraged to integrate your knowledge in these core areas, providing a solid foundation for future system-led learning.

Learning and Teaching

The module will be delivered as a series of key online lectures, online tutorials and practical classes (online and in laboratories).

Self-directed study will be used to encourage you to develop your understanding of the biology and pathology of disease.

This is a blended module which runs face-to-face on our Frenchay campus, and online. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 13:00 - 16:00 through semesters 1 and 2. Module start date for this academic year listed above.

Assessment

Assessment will include the following:

• Examinations (online with a 24 hour window for completion): Two online examinations, one at the end of semester 1 and the other at the end of semester 2, will assess the material covered in their respective semesters.
• Poster based on the interpretation of an extended simulated case study and essay (500 words).
