Developing Individuals and Teams UTLH3U-15-M 25/01/2027

Asynchronous - with optional drop in sessions online, materials available for 8 weeks

Course overview

This module, Developing Individuals and Teams, focuses on supporting personal and collective growth within educational settings. It explores strategies for enhancing professional development, with particular emphasis on communication, leadership, and conflict resolution. You will engage with key theories, frameworks, and practical approaches to better understand and address individual and team development needs.

A central component of the module is the design of a self- or peer-assessment tool tailored to your educational context and aligned with institutional goals. This may include a lesson observation template with feedback guidance or a broader professional development tool. Your design will be informed by module content, including relevant theories, research, and your own independent reading.

The module also examines core concepts such as needs analysis, performance management, motivation, ethics, reflection, mentoring, coaching, and action planning. These areas support the creation of inclusive and effective learning environments that promote both individual and team success.

The assessment requires you to apply your learning by designing a professional development tool and producing a critical reflection evaluating its effectiveness, relevance, and alignment with both theoretical frameworks and the developmental needs of your colleagues.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

Critically evaluate approaches to professional development.

Analyse developmental requirements and learning needs in a specific educational context.

Demonstrate attentive listening and effective communication skills in aiding individual professional development.

This is a fully asynchronous module, with all materials and communication on our online learning platform Blackboard. Occasional module drop ins which are communicated on Blackboard announcements during modules.
