Content and learning outcomes

• Focuses on collaborative, real-world research, working with practitioners to co-produce knowledge that addresses food system challenges in specific places.
• Builds capability in mixed methods research, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches across social and natural sciences.
• Develops skills in designing and justifying research approaches, including selecting appropriate methods and applying ethical and best-practice standards.
• Emphasises place-based and impact-oriented research, ensuring studies are embedded in the communities and systems they aim to influence.
• Equips students to develop a Theory of Change and structured research plan, linking evidence generation to meaningful outcomes.

Learning and teaching

Teaching and learning methods will include a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activities including webinars, meetings, lectures, readings, tasks and activities alongside independent study and tutor support.
