Content and learning outcomes

• Explores food systems from public health and urban planning perspectives, linking diet, wellbeing, and the design of healthier cities.
• Examines how food systems contribute to wider societal challenges, including poverty, sustainability, and net zero targets.
• Develops a systems thinking approach, analysing how food environments, policies, and actors interact to shape health outcomes.
• Critically evaluates innovative approaches to health and sustainability, such as urban agriculture, social prescribing, and “climate-friendly” diets.
• Builds skills to design and assess interventions and policies that promote equitable, healthy, and sustainable food systems in urban contexts.

Learning and teaching

Teaching and learning methods will include a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activities including webinars, meetings, lectures, readings, tasks and activities alongside independent study and tutor support.
